It's always worrisome when you're purchasing a product and have never heard of the brand before. WIth a low reputation but at a great entry level price, we're truly the guinea pigs, but the good news with this product is that it simply works.
The Yunmai smart scale works with both Android and iOS devices. For the purpose of this review, i will be using an iPhone 6 plus.
My first impressions from the moment I received it is that they've spent money on the presentation of this device. With competitors such as Withings who has brought to market Apple like cleanliness, a competitor such as Yunmai has to step up their game.
At first glance it looks very similar to the Aria from Withings. I personally have not tested the Aria so i can't mention anything other than the optics of it. But at first glance, the Yunmai beats it on the display when it displays weight plus body fat percentage on the same screen.
The Yunmai smart scale measures 10 body status: weight, body fat, BMI, lean mass, bone mass, muscle, protein, water weight, BMR (Basal metabolic rate) and body age. It also has the ability to track up to 16 users.
The scale runs on 4 AAA batteries that are included as well.
The app was easily found in the Apple Appstore. Setup was super easy, my mom could probably do it. Emphasis on the probably. Make sure your bluetooth is turned on, there is no manual pairing required, just open the app, step on the scale, and watch the number finalize. After the analyzing bars stop, your body fat percentage will appear and you're done!
The cool thing about using an iOS device is that it can sync up with your Health App. Keeping track of everything you do can help you make healthier decisions.
How does this add value to your daily life? Well, first off, knowing your numbers speak volumes. It's a constant reminder or encouragement of making the right choices when you take that piece of food and put it in your mouth. Do you really need to eat that whole pizza? or how bout 3 donuts? What would your Yunmai scale say the next day?
As a companion side note, I highly suggest reading The 4 Hour Body by Tim Ferriss. He has an easy to read book about hacking the boyd. When i was following his life changing plan, i went from 220 lbs to 185 lbs in the span of 6 months. Evidently, I fell off the wagon after some poor choices but hey, today is a new day and it's time to get healthy.
In the end it really depends if you enjoy tracking stats. I personally love seeing the progress of my life choices and it's really a great starting point in making small steps to a better tomorrow!
