Poke & Co.

Location: 123 Carrie Cates Ct. North Vancouver, BC

Meal:   Medium bowl - make your own - tuna, salmon, spicy tuna - Spicy mayo with house sauce

Service:  Friendly bowl artists that gave a lot of info on what everything was

Atmosphere: Food court style but everything was very visible like Subway

Bottom line: My friend Chico and I have been waiting for this place to open. I received a text yesterday and I made my way down today. Prices are reasonable, $10 (2 scoops), $12 (3 scoops), $14 (4 scoops). The tunas I had were good, the atlantic salmon was fresh. For the base of the bowl, you have a wide selection of salad, white rice, brown rice, or a combo.  In hindsight, I should have gotten other sauces cause the spicy mayo was a bit too spicy for me. Other than that, they had a nice selection of toppings like seaweed salad, imitation crab, ginger and others. I wish they had some kimchi though.

Out the door price: Under $13

Repeat: Yes

Final Rating: 4/5 Price was very reasonable compared to other poke places I've been.

Meal:  Cascade Bowl and Coast Bowl

Service:  Counter service, friendly staff member.

Atmosphere: Eat and go or take out

Bottom line: Over the past year, I've seen tons of social media photos about Westcoast Poké but haven't tried it. Today's take out edition features two of their signature bowls. The Cascade Bowl and their Coast bowl. After finishing the two, consesus was that the Coast Bowl was better because of the level of spice, the wild salmon, and the pineapples. One cool thing about Westcoast Poké is that they mix the fish in sauce and other toppings before pouring it into the bowl. They also have a stamp card if that's your thing.

The Poké Shop - Take Out Edition

Location: 306 Water Street, Vancouver, Vancouver, BC

Meal:  I ordered the Hawaiian Themed Bowl which has like spicy salmon and spicy scallops but it wasn't really that spicy.

Service:  Staff was friendly, they gave me a free scoop of guac.

Atmosphere: SO HOT. Serious sauna in here where I took a moment and asked myself, it's so hot in here, is the fish safe to eat. Apparently, they will be putting in air conditioning next year but it's seriously unbearable.

Bottom line: There isn't really anything wrong besides the fact is really packed. I like the purple grained rice which is a nice touch. The rice is hot though which made me slightly uncomfortable when it was already so hot inside and outside the restaurant. Salmon tasted fine, the scallop was fine. Overall it was a good experience. A bit on the pricey side for a regular size.

Criticism: Most places are giving bigger portions of proteins for the same or less. Might want to consider the value you're giving customers.

Out the door price: $15

Repeat: Probably not

Final Rating: 3.5/5

Pokérrito - Take out edition

Location: 558 Dunsmuir Street, Vancouver, Vancouver, BC

Meal:  North Shore Bowl

Bottom line: This may be the first time where I had a poke bowl that seemed to have way too much food. It was legit packed with goodies. I had the North Shore Bowl which included:

I was pretty impressed with it. This actually may be at the top of the list in terms of value. I'm not 100% sold on the sauce that was on my rice though. It made it a little sour...

Out the door price: Unsure, I didn't pay.

Repeat: yes

Final Rating:   4/5
