Location: 3190 Cambie Street, Vancouver
Nabebugyo has been open for a while now and the other day my friend Tim and I tried it for the first time. The restaurant has two types of seating choices, table or the bar. The u-shaped bar is very reminiscent of the restaurants you found in Japan like Yoshinoya in Tokyo.
Nabebugyo is a personal hot pot restaurant where you order different varieties of hot pot. Each meal comes with veggies, rice, salad, your choice of meat, choice of soup, and dessert (ice cream). In terms of taste, it’s not over powering, it's actually seems healthy (I ordered the sukiyaki). The portions are just enough to feel slightly full but compared to other personal hot pot restaurants in Vancouver, it seems small for the price.
The one really cool feature of this restaurant is that they don’t accept tips. Their credit card machines don’t even have the tip option.
I’d only recommend Nabebugyo if you’re fairly new to hot pot but if you’re fairly experienced and expect a lot, I’d say it is a hard pass.
