BIRRY EATS: Kimu Japanese Cuisine

I've been craving a solid Japanese meal without the rice because today, is not a cheat day. Tomorrow is. I decided to give Kimu Japanese Cuisine another try. The first time I was here, I came in the evening and decided to get one of their dinner bentos. I was impressed by the food, but not really the service. I asked for three pieces of Aburi nigiri and ended up with 9 pieces. I'll peg that one as lost in translation but overall the food was fantastic.

Fast forward to today, I ordered a spinach gomaee and the assorted sashimi. The gomaee was perfect, lots of spinach and a good ratio of peanut sesame sauce. It was presented in a very modern bowl where I found myself scrapping for the sesame sauce near the end.

That gomaee sauce! So good.

My main course was the assorted sashimi which was 12 pieces of fish. Large slices that don't represent the traditional way but more so the Sushi Garden/Sushi Town style. If I had to rate the freshness of the fish, I'd probably give it a 7/10. Sometimes you get an after taste that doesn't taste right? I'm not saying it was bad, but I found myself eating the ginger to clean my palette.

Some readers may be interested in knowing more about the wasabi. Looking at the texture, I'm pretty sure this was not freshly grounded from the root. I did take a swab of it and tasted it before I had the fish. It wasn't hot enough to make my brain hurt so I'm pretty sure it's a mixture.

The service was excellent. I counted 4 times they refilled my cup with tea and the tea was always HOT. They checked in after my food was delivered to ensure everything was good. I must say that they've improved on their service levels compared to the previous times I've been here.

I recommend that you check it out Kimu Japanese Cuisine and order the dinner bento box. Remember the bento box. #Legendary bring stretchy pants.

**Update** My cousins recently went there for dinner and had an opposite experience with the service. They waited over an hour for nigiri. 1+ hour. Wow... Not acceptable. Your experience may vary.
